Aircraft costs for a private jet

When using a private jet, the first costs are those of the aircraft itself. They are made up of several factors and depend heavily on the type and size of the aircraft – much like renting a car.
Depreciation
Every aircraft loses value over its service life. This loss is factored proportionately into the flight price, similar to a leased vehicle.
Maintenance costs
Regular technical checks, inspections and repairs are mandatory and ensure the safe operation of the aircraft – they are among the largest ongoing cost items.
Insurance
It covers the aircraft, crew and passengers and depends on aircraft type, area of operation and flight hours, among other things.
Fuel consumption
Depends on aircraft type and route length: the average speed is used to calculate flight duration and from that the fuel requirement, which is usually already included in the aircraft costs.
Crew on board
At least two pilots are usually on board, with flight attendants added for larger passenger numbers. This includes salary, travel expenses, accommodation and meals for the crew.

Ground fees and air traffic infrastructure charges

In addition to the pure aircraft costs, every private jet flight incurs further fees – for the use of airspace and airports, as well as for various services on the ground.
Airway fees
Comparable to motorway tolls for cars. The amount depends on the weight of the aircraft and the length of the route, and varies depending on the country flown over.
Airport fees
They allow the use of the runway, terminal facilities and luggage belts; depending on the country, additional air passenger taxes or entry fees may apply.
Clearance charges
Specialised handling companies take care of refuelling, aircraft cleaning, crew lounges and ground transport for passengers.
Storage costs
Apply when the jet is parked at the destination between the outbound and return flight – comparable to parking fees for a car.
Passenger safety fees
Due per passenger at take-off; the amount depends on the departure and destination regions and is usually lower within the EU than for flights outside it.
Additional costs for charter flights
These include the catering fee for meals on board as well as optional helicopter, limousine or taxi services to and from the airport.

Private Jet Costs for One-Way Flights

As well as a roundtrip, it is also possible to book a one-way flight by private jet. It is important to note that the private jet price increases if the aircraft has to return to the starting point without any passengers on board. Even without passengers on board, aircraft and fuel costs as well as crew costs, airport fees and the use of air traffic infrastructure are all part of the return flight; the return flight therefore costs almost as much as the outbound flight. This does not include storage costs, passenger safety charges and any additional costs for the return flight.
